Deck Restoration & Pergola Repair

Lauren found us through one of our Facebook ads. Her rear deck had seen better days and she wanted it restored and repaired rather than ripped out and started from scratch. Once we got on site it was clear the bones needed real attention, so we rebuilt the subframe from the ground up and laid fresh Bowens Perma Timber decking over the top. The 5x4m space sits under the existing pergola, which we tidied up by replacing a worn post. The result is a solid, good-looking deck Lauren can use again without a second thought.
Project Overview
This was a restoration job that went deeper than a surface fix. We stripped the old deck back, rebuilt the entire subframe so the base was square and level, then laid Bowens Perma Timber boards in a dark charcoal finish. We wrapped the perimeter with a clean picture-frame border for a tidy edge and replaced one of the pergola posts that had had its day. What started as a tired, worn-out deck came back as a low-maintenance outdoor space that ties straight into the back of the home.
Our Process
Consultation & Assessment
Met with Lauren after she reached out through our Facebook ad wanting a deck restoration.
Inspected the existing deck and pergola to work out what could be saved and what needed replacing.
Strip-Out & Subframe Rebuild
Removed the old decking boards.
Rebuilt the entire subframe to give the deck a solid, level base to sit on.
Pergola Repair
Replaced the worn pergola post supporting the roof.
Kept the existing pergola in place so Lauren held onto the shade and shelter she already had.
Decking Installation
Laid Bowens Perma Timber boards across the full 5x4m space.
Finished the edges with a picture-frame border for a clean, seamless look.
Finishing Touches
Cleaned up the site once the boards were down.
Walked Lauren through caring for the new deck so it stays looking its best.
